A key component for leaders to manage conflict is building trust and respect — with business associates, their staff, and between the team members.

Conflict between individuals can many times be traced to misunderstands about how people with different skill sets think — what makes them “tick”.

When people start to understand that:

  • the accountants aren’t intentionally dragging their feet
  • the sales force is not intentionally avoiding the onboarding process
  • the executives aren’t intentionally moving on to a new project before the last one was even scoped out

—  they begin to develop the tools required to resolve and avoid conflict – and build trust and respect with those they need to interact with. They learn that the skill set that makes people good in one area is exactly what may make them frustrating in others. This awareness goes a long way toward helping everyone understand the dynamics of the workplace.
