Dr. Allen was vey excited to be the first speaker of the day at the 8th Annual Connections Conference sponsored by SUNY Oswego and the Women’s Network for Entrepreneurial Training. She was part of an exciting lineup of speakers who spoke on the theme, “Connect-Pursue-Advance.” Dr. Allen made the case that the first person we have to learn to connect with is ourselves. Drawing on research from the science of well-being and positive psychology as well as current events like the efforts by Malala (who was nominated for the Nobel Peace prize for her efforts to promote education for girls and children everywhere) and the work of Sheryl Sandberg’s Lean In movement, Dr. Allen argued that knowing our own strengths and core values is essential for success in our businesses and in life.
