After a fairly lengthy pandemic-driven drought, we are overjoyed to be using the PeopleMap™ tool again to help individuals learn to understand and leverage personal strengths and connect with others on their teams and in their organizations.

We did a couple PeopleMap™ events virtually during the pandemic, which went well and made us partial converts to online events. Still, many organizations preferred to wait until such events could be held in person.

What is PeopleMap™?

The PeopleMap™ is a deceptively simple tool. Akin to a Meyers-Briggs or a DiSC profile but simpler to remember and apply, team members are identified using meaningful words instead of letters!

Professionals we have worked with have frequently said this tool has described their style better than any other tool they have used. A physicist I worked with said, “The PeopleMap™ assessment nailed my personality.”

What’s truly great about the PeopleMap™ is that it helps individuals figure out how to work together better with others in their organization BECAUSE it is so easy to apply to communication and teamwork.

Large or Small – Virtual or In-person – PeopleMap™ Gets Results

SUNY Cortland PeopleMap Workshop
Recently, we’ve had successful and productive PeopleMap™ training sessions with groups ranging from small leadership teams to large groups spanning a college campus.

We held an in-depth, multi-day training for SUNY Cortland.

The first day, my colleague, Dr. Tanya Williamson and I did a half-day virtual workshop using PeopleMap™ for close to 90 women. In spite of the virtual format with umpteen breakout rooms, the workshop was extremely well-received.

A few months later, nearly all of these women attended in-person follow-up sessions that focused on applying the tool to communicate better with others. The in-person events with these women from all over the College were both powerful and delightful!

“Every team can benefit from understanding personalities and working styles.”

Also, I recently went to California to work with the Revenue Operations Team for the company LaunchDarkly. This team was relatively new and had also grown from three to 15 people. This provided our first opportunity to work in a hybrid format, given that two members had to participate remotely from the East Coast in both the breakout sessions and the general activities.

Comments from the participants included, “I’ve already been able to adjust my approach to people based on what I perceive their PeopleMap™ styles to be” and “Every team can benefit from understanding personalities and working styles.”

Virtual and hybrid workshops are definitely doable and provide value in today’s work world, where many employees will continue to work remotely or in a hybrid fashion.

To Sum Up

The PeopleMap™ tool is tremendously user-friendly, fun for participants, and provides both a pathway to personal and professional development and toward building better relationships with others, especially those who may have different preferences than you do.

During the pandemic, Insight Business Works team members continued on our own learning journey. As a result, we have developed new offerings to improve team effectiveness and team functioning across the entire organization and its stakeholders. To achieve organizational goals, team members need to function well both within the team, and with other teams, customers, suppliers, and more.

Systemic Team Coaching, one of our new offerings, provides tools and techniques over broader and deeper engagements with teams to enhance “working together better” for the sake of creating more value for the organization and all its stakeholders. PeopleMap™, DiSC, MBTI (Meyers-Briggs), and The Five Behaviors of a Cohesive Team™ are all tools that live within a Systemic Team Coaching approach and are deployed when deemed most useful by the team leader, team, and co-coaches from Insight Business Works.

Next month we will discuss the advantages of systemic team coaching and why you should consider implementing it now.
