You’ve probably noticed that as people succeed in work, leadership is expected from those successful individuals. High-achieving individuals are given leadership roles, or they are expected to be leaders in their current roles. Maybe this has even happened to you.
The Importance of Learning to Lead
How do you learn to lead? How do leaders inspire others, provide constructive feedback, resolve conflicts, or keep the team happy while achieving goals?
Often there’s little guidance given. Some leaders jump right in and problem-solve as they continue their work, and others really struggle. Even those of us with leadership training find it challenging at times to get it “right.”
Leadership is “easier said than done” as the expression goes. When leadership goes well, there’s something about it that’s hard to describe because it is a complex blend of talents and skills. You notice that great leaders are often poised, passionate, confident, and humble. Their teams are energized, driving results, and working well together.
In contrast, many of us have seen leaders who don’t inspire or lead well. Sometimes they lack vision, and their team is confused. Perhaps, the leader is a bit “power-hungry,” and the tasks primarily revolve around the leader’s ego. Often those leaders are leading teams with unresolved conflicts due to the lack of communication and hurt feelings. Sometimes, these leaders get things done, but the system is inefficient, and it often feels chaotic to the team.
Leadership That Inspires and Energizes
Leadership can be challenging, but it can also be incredibly joyful. Yup, leadership CAN be joyful! You can impact your team, lead initiatives, share your mission, and get the results you desire. Yet, it requires a wide range of skills, from strategic thinking to emotional intelligence. The framework of Positive Intelligence® can help leaders develop the skills needed to be successful.
