Top coaches offer insights on leadership development & careers.
One of the most common personality assessments out there is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Through a series of questions, the assessment assigns each individual one of 16 “types,” based on that person’s tendencies toward extroversion or introversion, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, and judging or perceiving. Although you may already know which of these tendencies you possess, a formal analysis through the Myers-Briggs system can uncover insights about your personality and habits that you didn’t realize before.
Ultimately, your MBTI results can help you better understand yourself and how you work and interact with the people in your life, especially when you compare them to results of others. To help you make the best use of your newfound self-awareness, ForbesCoaches Council members recommend applying your results in the following ways, both at home and in the workplace.
Dr. Chris Allen’s response –
4. Create Your Own Development Plan
Identify an important personal or professional goal. Use your MBTI results to identify important strengths and weaknesses. List action steps you can take using your strengths to achieve your goal. Then consider how your weaknesses or areas of development could interfere with your effort to achieve your goal. Write out your own development plan and find a friend or colleague to be a buddy coach. – Christine Allen, Ph.D., Insight Business Works
